Castle ghost hunting ? extra activity of castle hotel accommodation

Added: 10/10/2005

If ghosts, goblins and someone knocking at your door at night fascinate you, many ancient castles will present you with the best experience. Nearly each castle has its own story and its own ghost. There are rumors about it, and many travelers purposely prefer a castle stay to a usual hotel accommodation in order to find out the mysteries of "the other world".

The UK is proud of the variety and number of castles, where you can be acquainted with ghosts. Castle ghosts can be sad and unhappy, or joyful and playful. As the castle has many varieties, stories and legends, so different the castle ghosts are. However, rooms in the castle hotels, where the ghosts live,   are often booked for months in advance. Therefore, it is important to plan the castle ghost hunting beforehand in order not to be late afterwards. Here is the list of the most famous castle ghost hotels in the UK:

Wales is prominent with the Caerphilly Castle, near Cardiff; the Cardiff Castle,Cardiff; the Castell Coch, near Cardiff; the Conwy Castle, Conwy; the Dunraven Castle, Glamorgan; the Roch Castle, Pembrokeshire and the Ruthin Castle, Denbighshire.
England fascinates its visitors with the castle ghosts in the Arundel Castle, Sussex;

The Berry Pomeroy Castle, Devon; the Bramber Castle, Sussex; the Cadbury Castle, Somerset; the Corfe Castle, Dorset; the Dover Castle, Kent; the Featherstone Castle, Northumberland; the Herstmonceux Castle, Sussex; the Hever Castle, Kent; the Hurst Castle, Hampshire; the Lowther Castle, Cumbria; the Okehampton Castle, Devon; the Old Wardour Castle, Wiltshire; the Tower of London, London and the Windsor Castle, Berkshire.

Scotland invites ghost lovers to the Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland & Caithness; the Duntrune Castle, Argyll & Dunbartonshire; the Hermitage Castle, Borders and the Barcaldine Castle, Argyll & Dunbartonshire.

However, there are castles in Europe, which bear the shade of ghost in their titles, though, actually, they are not ghost castles at all. It can be applied to the Mystery Castle, situated in Arizona, the USA. In fact, there is no mystery or castle ghost in the castle, but it charms the visitors with its odd construction and interesting history.
 The Mystery castle, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is named as such by the Phoenix Pride Commission. The castle was built by Boyce Luther Gulley in 1930, when he learned that he had tuberculosis and for that reason abandoned his wife and daughter. He traveled to Phoenix and built the castle for his little daughter, and since that time, the castle has become the Point of Pride of Phoenix.

Boyce Luther Gulley lived longer than he expected to live with such a malady and it took him fifteen years to build the mystery castle phoenix. In reality, the mystery castle is not a castle in the common sense, but an unusually constructed house. What makes the castle look so peculiar? The Mystery castle is set on the north side of the South Mountain, near the place, which was the town dump, when Gulley built the castle. Gulley used different unnecessary stuff from the dump such as auto parts, junk, stones and other things for building a house.

Find the picture online and see the panoramic view of the house, you will be really impressed by the sight.

Boyce Gulley's daughter, Mary Lou, still lives in the house and gives a half of the tour at the main house section of the Mystery Castle. Meeting and speaking to Mary is the most interesting part of the tour for the castle visitors. For some reasons she does not allow to visit her bedroom, but the balance of the house is rather fascinating too.

In addition, Arizona is famous for its ghost towns, where you will surely come across ghosts and visit the Mystery Castle on your way.
